However, there is so much more to cover before the series reaches that point, so a second season is highly possible.įor example, elements from the film such as the Gartjo War and the Wall of Destiny have not been addressed in the first season, so there is plenty of material to be included in the second series.Ĭo-Executive producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach teased a second season when speaking to io9. Will there be another series of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance?įans of the original film will know that the Skeksis nearly wiped out the Gelfing race. HOW DOES THE FILM FIT INTO THE DARK CRYSTAL SERIES TIMELINE? The Vapran princess had called the Crystal of Truth “the key to ending Skeksis power and uniting the Gelfling.Īlso in the final episode, The Scientist (Mark Hamill) began working on a new secret weapon known as Garthim.Ī Garthim is an artificial lifeform which soon becomes an obedient army to the Skeksis.Īll of these plot developments suggest another battle is impending.įans were also left with numerous unanswered questions such as What happened to Deet and will All-Maudra return? There were two major developments in the final episode which also set up Dark Crystal for a second season.īrea uncovered the lost shard of the Crystal of Truth, which last appeared in Deet’s vision in epode eight. The Skesis had released the power of the Darkening on Thra but were stopped by Deet.ĭeet, with her new powers from The Sanctuary Tree, was able to fight back against the Skeksis on her own, causing them to retreat into their castle. In the Crystal Desert, the Mystic Archer (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) sacrificed himself to kill the Hunter and in his place, Aughra (Donna Kimball) was reborn. Hunter (Ralph Ineson) also came very close to killing Rian but was stopped by a mysterious force. There was also a significant casualty in the battle, Maudra Fara (Helena Bonham Carter) was killed. Unfortunately, the resurrected Hunter was able to push the Gelfing back and in the process, destroy the Dual Glaive. It's fitting that the three main protagonists would be the parents of the original Dark Crystal characters who ultimately fulfill the prophecy.During the battle, the General (Benedict Wong) was wounded and killed by Chamberlain (Simon Pegg). Knowing this should give fans hope that Deet will be cured of the sickness brought on by The Darkening, as it would be necessary for her romance with Rian to progress and result in Jen's birth. This could be considered an indirect confirmation of who is Jen's mother. Having the grandfather, father, and son each play a role in Thra's history would add another meaningful layer to already rich storytelling.Įverything comes full circle with The Jim Henson Company's admittance during the behind the scenes commentary about Rian and Deet's love story being the core of Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Ordon is hailed a great warrior during the Arathim Wars, and Rian bravely leads a rebellion against the Skeksis in Stone-in-the-Wood. There would be three generations of Stonewood clan heroes. Meanwhile, Deet's vision shows Rian trying to heal the crystal with the shard in a way similar to how Jen did in the movie.Īnother thoughtful tidbit is Jen completing the family circle with his heroic legacy. In the Age of Resistance, Deet is gifted with a vision from the sanctuary tree, offering a glimpse of a young female gelfling who looks remarkably like Princess Brea, and is also escaping with a baby. In The Dark Crystal, Jen & Kira are the two key figures, so it makes sense that the prequel would make some reveals about who they really are and where they come from.Īlthough Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance doesn't outright confirm who their parents are, it does drop some intriguing hints that make for strong evidence as to who they might be. In The Dark Crystal, during a dream-fast, Kira shares her earliest memories with Jen, which reveals her mother carrying her as an infant while fleeing the garthim. The three central characters in Netflix's prequel series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance could be parents of The Dark Crystal's characters Jen and Kira.
